Sad Tale of Murder

About St Erth

The Sad Case of Murder in St Erth 1909

Below is a copy of a letter written to Leslie Attwood in February 2009. It is a sad affair and one that we hope will never be repeated in St Erth!

The writer of the letter sent three pieces of documentary evidence, a photograph of Emily Barnes, a newspaper article on the charging and trial of the murderer and details of the funeral. There is also a picture of "Big Lane" 1905, which became Tredrea Lane. To see these please click on the links below:

A Memorial service was held at St Erth Parish Church on 3 May 2012 for Emily Barnes Trevarthen Tredrea. Having been buried in an unmarked grave a gravestone was finally put in place For Emily by two of her nephews and two great nieces in 2011.

A film on the subject has been made by Gary Ewart, based at Bodmin Goal, who has also written a book on the murder.
